The construction industry is notorious for its adversarial nature, made inevitable by the traditional structure of its standard contracts. Our aim at Xircon is to make these perceptions a thing of the past by implementing new partnership and framework working arrangements that encourage co-operation rather than confrontation.

For example, we recommend the use of the JCT Constructing Excellence Contract wherever this will deliver tangible benefit on appropriate projects. We are the first construction company in Scotland to adopt this new style of contract, first published in December 2006 and adapted by Xircon’s legal advisers to be fully compliant with Scottish law.

We believe this to be the way forward for our industry. By incorporating the concept of individual and shared responsibility into a formalised contract, this new arrangement encourages all contractors to work together as a team to achieve the overall aims of the project, delivering significant reductions in cost and the risk of adversarial conflict while producing a far more enjoyable working experience, both in the planning process and on-site.
