Who we are
Xircon was established as a private limited company in 2006 by a senior team from Mowlem plc following the takeover of Mowlem by Carillion a few months earlier.
This may have provided the trigger, but the founding team of Alex Miller, (previously Mowlem Divisional Board Director), Thibaut Heinrich (Building Director, previously Mowlem Regional Board Director), Robert Garrett (Building Services Director) and John Casey (Operations Director) had long shared a vision to start something new that would offer clients a viable and exciting alternative to the traditional organisations in the marketplace. It was an idea that also captured the imagination of Paul Grant (Finance Director), inspiring him to join the newly formed Xircon and complete the senior management team.
At the time, evidence that the market was ready for change was clear to see. For example, no serious tenderer could be found for the £130m upgrade of Parliament House on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. Similarly, with industry focus increasingly turning to the rich pickings of high profile projects such as the Thames Gateway and 2012 London Olympics, there were no Scottish firms willing to take on a £48m school building contract on Shetland.
This is exactly the market Xircon was set up to serve – offering all the close contact benefits of a small company yet with the in-depth experience to provide the same level of large project capability as any industry giant.
It was the right formula at the right time. And because of how we work, our success story so far shows just why Xircon can be trusted to do it better.
