Xircon have secured a prestigious office development for Riverside Inverclyde in Greenock.

The two storey office development and car parking forms part of the £400M development currently underway to regenerate the riverside area of the town. Xircon’s Building Director Thibaut Heinrich stated “This is exactly the type of high quality construction work Xircon has been created to deliver, and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to be working with one of Scotland’s leading development agencies to revitalise the Greenock area”. To further stimulate the employment market within the Greenock area, Xircon have committed to take on at least six new apprentices for the project, and in addition will look at offering a number of short term unpaid placements for school leavers to give them a ‘taste’ of work on a modern construction site.

Against strong competition, the Board of Trustees at Lomond School in Helensburgh have selected Xircon as the most capable contractor to deliver a new Sports facility for the pupils. Located within the grounds of the existing school this is a very exciting development which will add presence to the surrounding area and provide significant exercise, training, fitness and changing facilities for both indoor and outdoor activities undertaken by the pupils.

The second project provides challenges of a very different nature. Located in central Glasgow, the work involves the construction of a complete new suite of offices on top of an existing six storey office block. The businesses within the existing offices will continue to operate throughout the construction programme, making close liaison with the client and the various tenant representatives a key factor in the success of this project.

A Scottish firm has taken an innovative approach to the skills shortage by recruiting asylum seekers and refugees.

Xircon is taking advantage of candidates who came through The Bridges Programme, which provides work opportunities for Asylum Seekers and Refugees.

Alex Miller, Managing Director of Xircon, has recruited refugees Cuma Ulgu and Pierre Mungombe to the team based in Cumbernauld.

He said: “We recognise the skills shortage is one of the biggest threats to the continuing progress of the Construction Industry in Scotland and that Employers need to look out with the ageing pool of available talent to find solutions.

“We are pleased to offer an opportunity to 2 Candidates with plenty of Construction experience who now have indefinite leave to remain in the UK.”

This scheme continually monitors the performance of construction sites against an eight point code of practice, which includes categories for Considerate, Environment, Cleanliness, Good Neighbour, Respectful, Safe, Responsible and Accountable. The scheme is supported by some of the leading contractors and client bodies in the country and Xircon are very pleased to be making an active contribution in promoting and improving the image of contracting across the country.
